The data and information maintained by the Thurston GeoData Center and presented in the Thurston GeoData website are NOT mapped to survey specifications or accuracies. In general the data and mapped information is graphically portrayed to within +/- 20 feet of true ground location. Data and mapped information such as survey monument locations and aerial photography are within +/- 3 feet and data such as soils are within +/- 400 feet. Please keep this in mind when using this data or viewing data tables created on the website. An example of the impact of computer mapping technology and data accuracies’ is the parcel data table created when you “Identify” a parcel on the website. Unless there is a 100% correspondence in mapped line locations you will receive multiple returns for a given data field. Zoning is a prime example, for a particular parcel the data table may read LI (Light Industrial) and RR1/2 (Rural Residential) indicating that both zoning types exist on that parcel. When you review the map you will see the parcel is mapped RR1/2 (Rural Residential) and that the LI (Light Industrial) classification appears because of a 7 foot difference in the mapped zoning line and the parcel line. Other data themes where this exist include but are not limited to “Permitting Jurisdiction”, “Jurisdiction of Influence”, “Wetlands”, and “Floodzone”. Remember, please look at the intent of the map.
Yes, this concerns us. However, Thurston County has approximately 110,000 parcels and we maintain over 100 mapped data sets. We are constantly updating and correcting the data, but for true matching the process will take years.
